Being a Kingdom Kid

We have a special wall in Room 10 where we put lots of ideas to help us think about what Kingdom Kids do.   Here is a photo:

We talked about each part and why it should be on our wall:

  • The 2 questions at the top help us to think about what we should do - What makes God smile?  What do we do in God's family?  When we ask ourselves these questions, it helps us make the right choices.
  • The Fruit of the Spirit remind us what God says in the Bible - we should have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in our lives!
  • The Armour of God reminds us to stand strong no matter what is happening around us.  Kia kaha!
  • Golden Manners are SO important.  Speaking kindly and thoughtfully to others makes life so much better each day!
  • We even have pictures of our school uniform on the wall because we think that "Kingdom Kids choose to wear the right uniform."  Awesome thinking, Petra!
  • WRT - we learnt about this last year from one of our amazing mums.  When you have a problem you can Walk away, Relax and then later you can Talk about it with someone who can help you.  Doesn't that remind you of the Fruit of the Spirit?  Peace and self-control!
  • Aroha team have all learnt a saying from Room 9's super teacher - Be in the right place...at the right time...doing the right thing.  That's what Kingdom Kids do!
  • Lastly we have our 3 special school values - Respect, Trust (Integrity) and Responsibility.  If we can understand these and live by them, everything else seems to happen too!

God is Sovereign!

We started today by talking about what the word 'sovereign' means.  Here are our first ideas:

You can see that we have only remembered a few things...I wonder what this photo will look like in a few weeks?  Check back in to see!

Welcome back!

It is always exciting to be at the start of a new school year! I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are ready to Learn, Serve and Grow in God in 2013.  Each day is a brand new gift from God that no one has ever had before.  What are you going to do this year as a Kingdom Kid?  I can't wait to find out...

Hear the angels...

...well, the angels weren't singing today in Room 10...but we did have a harp playing!  Bridie came and played some Christmas carols for us and we sang along.  We all got to listen and ask questions, then we were allowed to strum the strings.  Harps are amazing - we all learnt something new about them.

Here is Amon and Bridie with her beautiful harp!  Thank you for the amazing music!

Excellent illustrators # 8

Well, Nate took out this weeks' excellent illustrators competition.  He had lots of judges too as Kayla was away so... ALL the previous winners cast their votes and chose him!

This is what we thought:

  • his illustration matched the poem
  • the car on the screen is "so Nate"!  We thought it was cool that he thought to have something on the computer screen - and not just a blank computer!  It even looks a bit like the 'Create a car' game we like to play...but Nate says it is Craig Lowndes from the V8s :-)
  • the details he added - like the correct keys on the keyboard - and the mouse make a really great effort!

Lily!

This is Hanna's new puppy, Lily.  She came to visit us at school today. She wasn't scared of us at all..and she even let us pat her (and she gave a few of us a lick!).  Lily was the name of Hanna's best friend in Germany, so that is a very special way to remember her here in New Zealand.  The puppy is SSSOOOOOOO cute!

Excellent illustrators # 7

Kayla was last week's excellent illustrator!  We liked the way she:

  • coloured the monkeys not just one brown colour but a mixture
  • made the boat in the water look like it is in the sea
  • made the bucket of glue look cool
  • coloured the branch really carefully but shaded over the leaves to create a different effect
Well done Kayla!  It is getting tricky to choose...good luck for next week!
