Special Visitor
We had another special visitor this week. Mrs Williams is studying at Massey University's College of Education. She is in the last year of her degree and we are very excited that she is coming to teach in Room 10 for the first 4 weeks of term 2. Parents, we hope you pop in to class and say hello to her after the holidays. I know Room 10 will love having her at CCS - having 2 teachers in the room is a super bonus for our learning!
Beautiful Pieta
We had the best 'show and tell' ever last week! Gabriel and his mum brought his baby sister, Pieta, in to our class! Gabriel told us lots of interesting things about what babies can and can't do. Pieta even had cuddles with everyone who wanted one. Our key idea this term was 'The earth is the Lord's and everything in it' and next term we will be thinking about 'God is Creator' - what perfect timing to have a visit from one of God's most amazing creations - PEOPLE!

Joel W's zero waste lunch!
We looked at everyone's lunchbox in Room 10. Joel W was the ONLY person who had no rubbish
at all! He can reuse his lunchbox every day and there is no rubbish or recycling when he has eaten his food. Awesome!

Special visitor
We had a very special (and cute) visitor on Friday...Snowy the rabbit! Thanks to Christian's mum for bringing Snowy in and also thanks to Christian for telling us about his pet.
Christian had to hold Snowy in a towel because rabbits have scratchy claws! |
Snowy is an 'albino' rabbit - these are animals with very white colouring. Albino animals usually have pink eyes and ears too. |
A recipe for compost!
Another activity we did as part of our Zero Waste lessons was learning how to make compost. We talked about 'carbons' (brown, dry waste like old leaves) and 'nitrogens' (green, wet waste like vege peelings). We learnt how to make layers in a compost bin.
Lots of talking to work this out!
Here is the final result!

Natural Resources Game
Today for our Zero Waste lesson we thought about what our 'natural resources' are, what products we get from them and some examples of where we see them in every day life.
Awesome group work...
...and here are our answers!

Zero Waste
Today we started learning about our rubbish and what happens to it. Mrs Goodall talked to Rooms 9 and 10 about ways we can REDUCE our waste or rubbish...and it starts with our shopping! When we buy things at the shops, we can choose containers that we can use again or recycle when we have finished with them. Now that really gets you thinking, doesn't it?
Thinking hard about the 'good' choices we can make. Do we have a lunchbox we can wash and use again each day or do we use plastic wrap that just goes in the bin? |
Now we are getting really good at making choices! Rechargable batteries that we can use again or ones that go in the landfill after they run out of power? No competition! |
