What is a 'good' king?

More questions!  We have been thinking really hard about the kings in the Bible - Saul, David, Solomon and others.  We tried to brainstorm ideas about ones who are a good example of what a king should be like.  Here are our ideas:

God is Sovereign - new ideas

At the start of the year we thought about what the word 'sovereign' meant.  We only had a few ideas but as we have talked about it and looked at people in the Bible we have come up with a few more things to share. Sovereign could also mean:

  • ruler
  • queen
  • leader
  • Lord of all lords
  • the boss
  • someone who signs things (like new rules or laws) because they are in charge

Poem - Term 1, Week 3

Here is another poem.  Martha is the illustrator and Anya is the reader.  We hope you enjoy it!

If you have trouble watching any of our videos or playing some of the games, it may be your internet browser.  Google Chrome can be downloaded for free and will work well on this blog.

Hockey stars!

Room 10 have all become hockey stars!  Our whole school is having special hockey lessons with Steffan from Hockey Manawatu.  It is fun and we are getting really good skills too.  Here are some action shots to show you what we have been up to:

Teams tackling...
Joshua juggling...

John, Matthew and Mosese in action!

Acrostic poems

Each one of us is a special creation and God knows all about us.  He loves us just as we are and it is amazing to think that we are all so different...but we all belong together as His family.  Here are some of the acrostic poems that Room 10 have written using their names:

Great work by Hamish and Joel W!  There are plenty more to read in our room.  Come and enjoy them!

2 stars...and a prayer!

At the end of our first week back at school, we talked in buzz groups about what we thought we were doing well (our 'stars) and what we think we could ask God to help us with in the next few weeks (our 'prayer').  Here is what we all agreed on:

Our handwriting has really impressed Mrs S!  We also thought we made our 'rainbow names' very carefully.  They look so colourful and they'll be hanging up in Room 10 soon.  Setting out all our new books is quite hard. There is so much to learn!  That is what we can ask God to help us do well over the next few weeks.

Being a Kingdom Kid

We have a special wall in Room 10 where we put lots of ideas to help us think about what Kingdom Kids do.   Here is a photo:

We talked about each part and why it should be on our wall:

  • The 2 questions at the top help us to think about what we should do - What makes God smile?  What do we do in God's family?  When we ask ourselves these questions, it helps us make the right choices.
  • The Fruit of the Spirit remind us what God says in the Bible - we should have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in our lives!
  • The Armour of God reminds us to stand strong no matter what is happening around us.  Kia kaha!
  • Golden Manners are SO important.  Speaking kindly and thoughtfully to others makes life so much better each day!
  • We even have pictures of our school uniform on the wall because we think that "Kingdom Kids choose to wear the right uniform."  Awesome thinking, Petra!
  • WRT - we learnt about this last year from one of our amazing mums.  When you have a problem you can Walk away, Relax and then later you can Talk about it with someone who can help you.  Doesn't that remind you of the Fruit of the Spirit?  Peace and self-control!
  • Aroha team have all learnt a saying from Room 9's super teacher - Be in the right place...at the right time...doing the right thing.  That's what Kingdom Kids do!
  • Lastly we have our 3 special school values - Respect, Trust (Integrity) and Responsibility.  If we can understand these and live by them, everything else seems to happen too!
